3rd Blog: What Can I Share From My EduTech 2019 Experience

We are so thankful that our dear professor, Ms Olivar, invited us to attend a convention on SMX Mall of Asia. The convention is entitled "EduTECH Philippines 2019: 21st Century Quality Education For All In The Philippines" held on February 20-21, 2019. It is first time ever that this event is held at our country, and the catch is it is free admission! It is very convenient for us, Education students, to be able to experience and learn so much information and techniques together with our future colleagues.

Before the week of the event, Ms Olivar told us to spread out in  the convention. We divided ourselves to the categories and we will share to the class what we have learned from the seminar. I was assigned to attend the TeachTechTalk category. When I came, I register right away with my other classmates. After the registration, I went straight to the assigned hall and started to listen and pay attention.

On the first day, I learned different applications that you can use in your class to catch your students' attention and make the class more engaging. Each presenter showed how to use the application and its use. The speaker presented his own game that is created on the "Scratch" application. He is an Araling Panlipunan tecaher and the created game helps him to explain and discuss the topics more interesting and fun to his students.

On the second day, there is a certain topic that caught my attention and that is the "The 8C's of  the 21st Century Education Focusing on Character Formation Through Digital Citizenship"

CREATIVITY
Students learn within a 1:1 environment, given the tools to be original, and they are encouraged to use their innate curiosity and creativity. Help your students to express themselves through arts and crafts.

CRITICAL THINKING
Students are awarded the freedom to learn at their own pace, and in their own ways. With a real-time view of their progress, self-assessment is openly encouraged as a way to reach their goals. Students must learn how to analyze complex things and simplify it by using different references.

COMMUNICATION
Teachers must establish the confidence and social skills of her students. She must conduct sets of student-centered type of  activities. It can help the students to enhance their communication skills with their classmates and as well as with their teachers.

COLLABORATION
Students can also learn from their classmates, they can share their knowledge with each other. Teamwork is essential for them especially for the young ages. They need to work together for them to accomplish the goal.

COMPUTATIONAL THINKING
There lots of ways to teach a mathematical equation and problem solving. By he use of technology, computers to be specific, the students may acquire the knowledge of using computers in a very complex problem solving.

COOPERATION
In this generation, it is very important to learn how to cooperate. Teachers must give activities that needed a cooperation for them to accomplish something. It may help the students to enhance their social skills and teamwork.

CITIZENSHIP
"Youth are the hop of this country" Students has a lot of potential. They can acquire knowledge in no time but being academically smart is not enough. Teachers must encourage the students to be a good citizen. Motivate them to join different organizations and participate in their community's activities and help to solve the current issues by doing attainable things which can lessen the problem.

CHARACTER FORMATION
Being a teacher is not only a profession, this also means that you are the second guardian of your students. You must portray appropriate gestures and help them form their character as they also hit the curricular objectives.

Last January 12, 2019 is the first meeting with our Professor. Unfortunately, that is also the booked date for our company’s annual planning @ Parque Espana, Alabang. That is our second time there and we always set the meeting at their bistro on the rooftop, Bistro del Cielo.

The venue is nice. They have a bar counter, complete audio-visual equipment, and a complete set of conference table and seats.

Every year, we are required to make a brief presentation about our plans and how to achieve our target quota. One by one, we will present in front of the whole team.

The dinner ended around 10:00 pm.
The meeting ended almost 8:30 pm. Our team decided to have a dinner @ Manong’s.  We ordered different dishes and their specialty, crispy pata.

Our boss decided to go back to the office and finish the bidding documents that are due on Monday, January 14, 2019.

To wrap it all up, the date of our first meeting is also the date of our company’s annual planning and last minute completion of the documents for the bidding requirements for our top account, Okada.

1st Blog: The Most Important Role of Teachers in Integrating Technology into the Lesson Plan

It’s been a while since I published my very last blog. This is our first ever task for our subject, Educational Technology II. We are asked to write about the topic “Important role of a teacher in integrating technology into lesson plan. So, sit back, relax and start to read my blog. I hope that you will get something from me after you read my work. Here we go.

Technology alone does not improve education. Great technology with entertaining content does not improves education. Expensive gadgets and pricey projectors also don’t give a count. But a knowledgeable teacher who can maximize the use of what is the only available technology surrounds her will do.

In the present time, the technology is so advanced that it made the source of information so much available everywhere. Google is just one click away. Students can now swim into the pool of information online and share their acquired information in the class. The major role of the teachers in the present time is to be a facilitator who will guide the students from which information should they keep, or should they throw away.

Integrating of technology in the lesson plan is very challenging especially when you are a traditional type of teacher who’s afraid to try and explore new things. But greater things happen as the years go by. New inventions are made every now and then and different styles and techniques are discovered. For you to become a great person, you must adapt to the changes and learn from it. Going back to what I have said before, it is a huge challenge to integrate the technology into a lesson plan because you must include this into your system forever. You must know the trends and interests of your students for you to speak the same language to them. You must also know how to choose the right combination of what application you will use considering the topic that they must learn.

The important role of a teacher is to be a wise facilitator and who is always ready for a change, who is eager to study every trends and new discoveries, and someone who is always open to share her learning and experiences to her class.
